History Display and chance to look around – Architecture students re imagining of the church!

We are open Saturday 13th 1pm – 4pm after our monthly free organ concert . Take a look inside this traditional and atmospheric church, which as an Anglo-Catholic Church of England Place of Worship is home to statues, vestments and processional banners similar to Roman Catholic churches. The original 1769 Whitehurst clock from the clock tower is also located on the ground floor and in full working order.

A history display charts St Peter’s journey from the 18th Century to the 21st, and includes pictures from inside the tower which is inaccessible to the public.
In keeping with the theme of architecture, 2 students from Manchester School of Architecture have used St Peter’s for their thesis and the imaginative results will be on show along with their model of the church.

Saturday is the date of our free Organ Concert too so pop along earlier if you like (1000-1300), and listen to guest organists play our church and theatre organs, or piano.

Hot and cold drinks available, and if you’re lucky there may still be cake left from the concert!

It’s that Heritage Open Days time of year, and we are happy to be a part of the festival again this year. We are open Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th September from 1pm to 4pm. Take a look inside this atmospheric church, pause to light a candle or peruse our church history exhibition. The original 1769 Whitehurst clock from the clock tower is also located on the ground floor and in full working order.

Heritae Open Days 2022 – Exhibition

It’s that time of year yet again, and we are again happy to be a part of the Heritage Open Days scheme. This year is focussed on the beautiful embroidered processional banners we have. We will be open on Saturday 10th September from 1.15pm – 3.30pm.

Most of these fascinating banners are on display on the gallery and not accessible up close. Each one has been photographed and studied to produce an informative booklet – available on the day to visitors. Close up photographs and a short description will also be on display.

People are also welcome to just have alook around the Grade II listed church, and refreshments will still be available.

We will also be open in the morning for our monthly free organ concert which you are welcome to come along to as well if you wish. That starts at 10am and you can come and go as you please.

Events are Back! – Organ Concerts & Heritage Open Days

We are pleased to announce that our monthly free organ concerts will be restarting from Saturday September 11th 2021. They will follow the usual format, starting at 10am and continuing until 1pm. Refreshments will be available throughout, and you can come and go as you please. Guest organists to be confirmed, updates will appear on this site when avilable.

Following the first organ concert on September 11th, we will be participating in the Heritage Open Days which this year is focussed on the beautiful embroidered processional banners we have.

Secret St. Peter’s – A Photographic View Inside the 18th Century Tower

St. Peter’s tower is in need of restoration and is unsafe for visitors, but you can take an exclusive look inside through our photographic exhibition – inside the church, and online.

Our amateur photographic exhibition will show you the interior of the long-hidden tower area. From the original 18th Century wooden staircase, entrance onto the gallery, the second floor where you can see into the vast roofspace, and up to the clock chamber where the Whitehurst clock was once housed. There are also a couple of views taken from the 40 metre high cherry picker used to conduct urgent repairs to the dome (an exhibition/book of the rest of these pictures is also planned in the near future).

Situated inside the church, you can view the exhibition and the main areas of the church, pause for a moment of peace/prayer and enjoy a hot/cold drink in our cafe area. The church is open Saturday 12th September 12pm – 4pm. The display is now available here.
